2018 Lexus LS vs. 2017 Tesla Model S: A Comprehensive Comparison

Are you torn between two popular luxury vehicles and not sure which one to purchase? While both the 2018 Lexus LS and the 2017 Tesla Model S are top-rated vehicles, the 2018 Lexus LS is the smarter investment. Here’s why:

Performance

If you enjoy pure engine power from your luxury sedan, then the 2018 Lexus LS is the better option. The Lexus LS 500 is powered by a 3.4-liter turbo V6 engine that produces 416 horsepower. Even though the 3.5-liter DOHC V6 hybrid engine of the Lexus LS 500h sees a slight dip in power (354 horsepower), it is still more powerful than the most potent engine offered by Tesla. The Model S has engines that range from 315 horsepower to 328 horsepower.

Interior Space

In total, the 2018 Lexus LS offers 99.4 cubic feet of passenger volume, 5.4 cubic feet more than the 2017 Tesla Model S, which boasts 94.0 cubic feet. Accessing cargo in the Lexus LS is simpler thanks to the available hands-free gesture liftgate. Such a feature is not available on the Tesla Model S.

Safety

Both the 2018 Lexus LS and the 2017 Tesla Model S offer an abundance of safety features, including standard airbags, antilock brakes, daytime running lights, traction control, and rearview cameras. Each is also standard with its own lane departure warning system, and both offer available all-wheel drive.

However, the Lexus LS model comes standard with Safety Connect, which includes a GPS response system for emergencies. The Tesla Model S does not offer any comparable feature. Similarly, the LS is available with the Panoramic View Camera, but the Model S does not have a camera that monitors the sides of the vehicle.

Warranty

Finally, the corrosion warranty on the 2018 Lexus LS lasts two years longer than the four-year warranty on the Model S. The Lexus warranty is good for unlimited miles while the Model S tops out at 50,000 miles.

While both vehicles prioritize the well being of their drivers and passengers with loads of safety features, the 2018 Lexus LS comes out on top with a standard GPS emergency system, superior horsepower, more room for your belongings, and a longer-lasting warranty.
